I always appreciate when someone is blunt with me and just says, "I don't know how" or "I don't know." As we strive to build our businesses I need to remember to extend the same courtesy as it applies.
I'm always so grateful for new business opportunities. I'm happy someone asks me to quote a job. I'm happy to learn new things to expand my offerings.
I also have to remember I can't learn it all , do it all. I need to remember to say, "I'm sorry, that isn't one of my specialties." I do have a talent to research reputable resources and find the company that IS able to provide the solution. I don't have to do the work. It isn't always my talent.
I'm finding I'm more comfortable offering my expertise to do research and make a report and recommendations. I'm also getting comfortable accepting that I don't have to specialize in 20 tasks. That's not really specializing. I do better teaming with reliable and honest partners that don't specialize in what I do.
So far this is working well. I've teamed up with what I call my "Network Heroes," a few large print job specialists, database designers, event photographers and others to allow me to provide great solutions for my clients.
Whew! That's a load off my mind. I'm so glad I don't have to do it all.
