I've been in search of a way to clear my head. My brothers, my friends and clients suggested yoga; all but one client. She had a better idea. Ice skating!
This photo is not me. I don't mean to confuse you but wanted some photo of skaters.
Floods of happy memories of skating as a child came back to me. Taking lessons with Kathleen, my best friend. The Christmas show. My pink ice skirt. The white skates my mother saved Blue Chip stamps for one year.
We walked from her home down the street from me to just outside the neighborhood to the local ice rink. It shares a parking lot with the Valley Cinema Pub - a funky 2nd showing type of theater that allows beer and wine to go with the pizza they serve at tables in the evenings.
For eight dollars, we were permitted to wear the skates that hundreds have worn before us and skate on the rink for an hour and a half. It wouldn't have mattered if we had until three in the afternoon; an hour-and-a-half was plenty of time to be worn out from attempting to keep my ankles level.
I should have mentioned, it's been 20 years since I've skated. After about a half hour I regained some of my balance; enough to to pick up speed and talk while skating.
My friend/client was kind enough to give me the warm up time before she started to visit with me. It must have been obvious that skating and talking would have been a bit much for me.
The walk toughened me up enough that I didn't need a jacket. I felt quite proud of myself leaving with a dry fanny. We returned the skates and walked back home. It was a great brainstorming session and a great way to clear my head for the day.
We're making a regular meeting of it every Thursday. Can't wait!
