I find when I'm in the spiraling funk and can't seem to see daylight it's time to get out of myself and help someone else who can't help themselves. I break out a bag of scraps and make a binky.
Sometimes I'm trying too hard to make things happen, get projects, move things along. Everything I do seems to get in the way. Sometimes I need to take a break. When I do, I get out a bag of fabric scraps, cut them up and quickly sew them into a blanket for a child in need.
If one doesn't do it, I get out some fleece fabric, cut some fringe and make another binky. By about the second or third the fog lifts and the phone seems to ring. Happens every time.
Sometimes you just have to take the time to get out of your own way and help someone else. It doesn't have to be hard. You can volunteer to read to the children at a local school or library, make cards and cookies for elderly neighbors. Passing out cookies gets me a baking fix but removes the danger of cookies for breakfast from the house.
