I have to admit it. High School Musical - the stage version, not the movie - was FANTASTIC. It wasn't an inexpensive adventure, but well worth it. I refused to pay what the schools wanted for tickets. Fundraiser or not, I disliked the movie so much that I wasn't about to pay $100 for tickets - EACH.
Our daughter knew that it just wasn't in the budget and she was OK with it. She has the movie and has watched it enough that she knows ever line and song. It's worse when you get her with her best friend and they go through the movie. MAKE IT STOP.
Well, we had a good month and decided to buy tickets for me to take her. Orchestra seats through LifeBalance. The tickets were a lot less and great seats.
We surprised her Thursday night and told her. She squealed and jumped on her bed for 15 minutes.
Tonight we got ready together. She wanted so much to look like the Gabriella character. She even wanted me to climb into the attic to get her "Violet Incredible" wig from the Halloween tub. Uh - No!
We made it out the door. The boys dropped us off. She was so excited.
The curtain went up and from the first note it was a fabulous production. The costumes were fun, the cast couldn't have been better. It was so much better than the annoying movie and the annoying cast in the movie.
Our daughter's favorite was the woman who played, "Sharpay" (Helene York). Her costumes made me hoot each time. So perfect for her personality.
My favorite was her brother, "Ryan" (Bobby List). He was such a "fancy boy." I howled. He made the show for me.
My second favorite character was the drama teach, "Ms. Darbus" (Ellen Harvey). She brought back memories of my favorite teachers who inspired me through high school. Thank you, Mary Jean Giotta!
The musical numbers, the choreography and set changes kept the energy going from beginning to end.
I'm very glad our daughter wanted to see this. I had time just with her and saw a fun show.
