As much as I wanted to see this movie, since I enjoyed the cartoon as a child, Mother's Day, IMAX and two small children were most likely not the best combo. It sucked the life out of the rest of the day.
This movie was fun, I enjoyed the simple plot - as it was in the cartoon. The effects were great, it was cast well. It just went about 20 minutes too long. I appreciated the plot rest in the middle when it slowed down with not so many colors.
Our son started to yell in the middle due to overwhelm. He had me hold his ears for the remainder of the film and then he did enjoy it. Both children loved the movie but were exhausted. They especially liked the characters of Trixie, Spritle and Chim Chim.
I'm not sure what I would say for the best time of day to see this with children or what snacks would help, perhaps ear muffs? I just don't know.
We all had fun but it drained the rest of the day. Could have been the movie or just a typical weekend day in our house. I'll never know. I do know I took a nap out of self-defense around 4. I NEVER nap unless I'm sick with fever or barfing.
