We had our first experience fishing as family. This didn't just involve the day we fished, but the days leading up to it with selecting the rod, talking about bait, practicing at the campsite and then buying the worms that morning. Our children were practicing with their rubber fish dangling from their Scooby Doo and Spiderman rods. We had our spinner off our Daiwa entry-level rod.
We had worms. I laced the worms on their hooks - twice for holding power. Daddy cut his in half to try getting them hooked faster.
We fished on the DesChutes - the upper camping area. Not many people, but a few loud-talkers on jetskis and boats.
We're not sure what happened. But what we know is this:
- 1/2 worms work better.
- Scooby Doo rod caught all the fish.
- Small fish have as many bones as large ones.
- Small fish are easier to fillet after they are cooked.
- Children don't like to chop off the heads of fish.
All in all, it went very well for the first time considering the lack of sleep and children casting their little hearts out in all directions.
We highly recommend the Scooby Doo fishing rod with the Mystery Machine tackle box.
Our son still prefers the Spiderman version with the light-up key chain.
