Do you like blown glass? Are you fascinated by color and light? Do you know the name Dale Chihuly? Then drive, fly - GET TO SAN FRANCISCO! The exhibit at the de Young Museum is breathtaking. It is running through September. It is not to be missed.
I had the gift of meeting my best friend in San Francisco to kick off my birthday period. I don't have a single day to celebrate - I drag it out as long as I can. My best friend understands this. She invited me to take a plane - on her - and meet her in San Francisco. We stayed at the Fairmont and did the town right with our 30 hours together. The timing for the Chihuly exhibit at the deYoung was perfect.
We started our adventure with High Tea at the Fairmont, followed by shopping in the hotel, drinks and appetizers at The Top of the Mark. From there we walked down to the Starlight Room, Scala for dinner, on to the Tonga Room (which was just closing) and back to the hotel.
I spent the early part of the morning walking around the blocks surrounding the hotel. This included a visit into Grace Cathedral. By the time she woke up it was time to catch a cap to the museum. We had breakfast on the patio, toured the museum and lingered in awe throughout the Chihuly exhibit. Here are some of the photos.
After that we made our way to the rose gardens and back to the Embarcadero just in time for lunch at Osha Thai, hotel and on to the airport for me.
It was an amazing trip. We talked and laughed non-stop.
