Our family needs a break from the school auction, the news, the rain. "...to wet to go out And too cold to play ball.So we sat in the house. We did nothing at all. So all we could do was to sit, sit, sit, sit..."
I thought about our author, Dr. Seuss and an appropriate, fun, off-the-wall way to celebrate his life, his contribution to literacy and the man. My husband and I are going to come up with 5 - 10 activities and put them in ... a hat, of course. It will be a combination of art activities, zany fun and food fun.
Some activity options will include:
- Eating cake in a tub.
- Flying a paper kite in the house
- Catching balloons with a net in the house or in the yard - fan blowing to add to the challenge
In The Kitchen: Cat in the Hat Edible Hats
1 Ritz cracker
3 Red Lifesavers (gummy ones would work best)
small amount of white frosting or cream cheese
kids assemble their edible cat's hats by placing the Ritz cracker on the bottom, spreading the white frosting, placing one red lifesaver, spreading more frosting, etc. (alternating the frosting and lifesavers). Students end up with a miniature Cat in the Hat hat!

Craft Suggestions:
Include supplies to make one or more of these crafts.
- Make collages by cutting pictures of cats out of magazines.
- Cut a circle out of a black piece of paper. Starting on the outside edge, cut one large spiral piece about 2-inches thick. Tape this spiral strip to the back of your pants to be a cat tail!
- Make this goldfish craft or create a fun fish bowl picture using a paper plate and a few other supplies.
- Make a kite to fly in the house.
- Make cardboard roll puppets of the main characters and put on a puppet show!
- Make several of these Dr. Seuss Craft Projects
- Make some cat crafts.
- Make a variety of hats.
