My best friend and I share many things. We are able to finish each others' stories, recount memories when the other forgets the details and child-rearing tips and horror stories. Another thing she share from season to season are clothes.
Both of our weight has gone up and down between health issues and pregnancies. When one of us is up the other is sometimes down so we ship off a box of goodies. These usually include Lucky Jeans, business dresses, track suits and other items. We've been doing this for years.
Today we bid farewell to a pair of jeans we've shared since 1998. They are the typical Gap jeans - from before the time where everything was so low you needed special "low jean" chones to avoid being tacky. These are just your basic faded, soft jeans. They started out as jeans for going out with friends, a day at the school, weekend date jeans.
They evolved into around the house jeans, "I don't feel well" jeans and gardening jeans. While logging on this morning they developed into their next incarnation - scraps for Binky Patrol blankets jeans.
Marne, my best friend, already has an amazing quilt I "loaned" to her while I was making her wedding quilt. The velvet tapestry hold-me-over quilt still lives in Florida. I'm permitted to borrow it when I visit every few years.
I think I'll use this pair of jeans to create another bit of love since I can't be in Florida nearly enough. It can rest with the tapestry quilt to cover all occasions.
Our children were giggling as my fanny was peaking through and wondered why I don't just mend them again. They haven't seen the inseam! It's time, dear pants, for you to become something else to share with my best friend.
