With a bigger television some movies are getting a renewed interest in our home. A pile of ironing awaited me and I needed a distraction. On-Demand - free movies - TCM - Anchors Aweigh with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Even though the billing had Frank Sinatra ahead of Gene Kelly - it was definitely Gene Kelly's movie.
It was a bit warm outside and our daughter and her friend wanted a break from the sun. I told them they could hang out in the living room if they promised not to interrupt the movie.
No problem!
They LOVED the movie, the dancing, the humor, the costumes. It was so much fun for me to watch their faces filled with interest and smiles; just as mine had been years ago when I watched this movie for the first time with my mom on our RCA console television in the maple cabinet.
It's not wonder I had such a twisted and unrealistic view of love in high school. These were my roll models.
Not only was falling in love quick, but forever. Music and dancing always came with it. There was always a happy ending that the right guy ended up with the right gal after some sort of mix comical mix-up.
I feel badly for my first love. He had to meet some high expectations and really didn't want to beyond what served his purpose.
My forever love gets it and does his best to make it happen as it did in 1945 on the screen.
