... or so our 3 1/2 year old tells us. We have been watching a lot of regular television with the Olympics and a lot of commercials. He walked up to me and said, "Zyrtec is more effective, mommy."
I knew where it came from and asked the obvious, "More effective than what?"

I had the task tonight of purchasing a much overdue bathing suit. The last time I purchased a suit my mother was still alive and joined in the adventure at Nordstrom in Mission Viejo. That was five years ago. My suit has gone through numerous "nearing the goal weight" cycles, another child, more breastfeeding. The poor suit has served me well. But my daughter so tactfully pointed out, "Mommy (she uses this term when being sweet), I think your suit has shrunk and gotten tired. You may need a new one that won't shrink."

...Especially when they're made out of sand! I don't like them when they are alive."
This was one of our lighter moments to a day filled with snotty attitudes, meltdowns, arguing, kicking, fighting, poking, etc.. Ahh, summer! There's nothing like it.

My best friend called late last night. It was late for her with the three hour time difference. We hadn't spoken in two weeks. We usually speak once a day, so we were both getting a bit bent out of shape. She had a lot of catching up to do and told me this story about her daughter.

I found it quite creative, but mean. Our 3 1/2 year-old son has taken a shining to the James Taylor song, "You've Got a Friend." He knows most of the words and loves to just break into song. Today was different. He was not happy with his sister and wanted to tell her just how much he wasn't happy with her.
Here is one of his attempts to make nice a few days later: MOV06963-1.wmv (5537.0K)

Our son is in a stage of nasty fits to express frustration and anger. Doesn't that sound like a civilized way to describe it? I thought so. I'm sort of showing off. I don't deal with it nearly as civilized. Toys are all going up high in time outs. It helps, but most of all - it feels like I've done something with my snowballing anger.

Our daughter has started this game in the car with her brother, "who can go the longest without talking."
I love this game, I must say. They are both really good at it.

The other day our daughter came home with a new vocabulary word: melancholy. She completely understands what it means.
They all seemed to understand it quite well in her class and it seemed to give them the answer to a word they had been searching for. They seemed to want something other than "sad" to express a deeper feeling when it just hurt.

A friend of ours is moving soon. She has two children and they are taking it well. They are 6 and 4. The biggest uestion they had was, "Do we get to take the pets?"
The answer was, "Of course."
Further probing from the boy was, "Even the fish?"
"Of course, the fish too." was the reply.

I'll keep this list growing. Here are some of the words we enjoy for various reasons.
